Workshop description
The Geometric Integration and Computational Mechanics workshop has been organised as a part of the FoCM conference since the early days of FoCM. It is a forum where numerical analysts interested in structure preserving algorithms and mathematicians in the geometric mechanics community meet. The participants have a common interest in methodology with foundations in differential geometry and Lie groups. The workshop represents a vibrant and engaged community of researchers with research topics ranging from very theoretical questions to applications. This year a number of contributions related to the geometric and structure preserving approach to data are included in this workshop, showcasing some of the new trends and directions of this research community. The two semi-plenary speakers are two of the most prominent researchers in the respective areas of geometric mechanics (Francois Gay-Balmaz) and geometric numerical integration (Ben Leimkuhler).
